Kevin first studied linguistics at SIL in Sydney in 1974-75. He and Mary discovered that the Pukapukan language, of the Northern Cook Islands was unwritten. So they began working with the Auckland area Pukapukan community on language development projects. In 2004 an indigenous Pukapukan team, scattered between New Zealand, Australia and the Cook Islands, began work on the Bible.
Mary has retired from her lecturing in Linguistics at Massey University (Albany). She has a passion for teaching linguistics to Pacific Peoples, and is currently the SIL Linguistics Coordinator for the Pacific Area. Together they aspire to help train Pacific Islanders to be translators and Scripture Use specialists in Melanesia.
“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of trouble.” Hebrews 4:16
