Ian & Tania Vail

Before joining WBT, Ian taught secondary school and Tania was a hairdresser. Their initial assignment in 1987 was to a translation project in Indonesia as well as teaching linguistics at the university. They returned to NZ in 1993 when visas were denied to the field group. They served as pastors at Matamata Baptist Church and Ian was also on the Wycliffe NZ Board as well as recruiting on university campuses. In 1996 Ian became NZ Director for Wycliffe and developed God’s Awesome Book as well as many other Resourcing the Church seminars. Tania produced the monthly Wycliffe Prayer notes (WIF) and served in Member Relations. In July 2004 they were asked by Wycliffe International to work with the national Wycliffe organisation in Indonesia, Kartidaya. Returning to NZ in 2015, Ian has continued the same work of teaching Deeper Bible in NZ churches as well as teaching Deeper Bible in Indonesia and Brazil, while Tania took up the Prayer Coordinator’s role again and producing Prayer Matters. She stepped down from that role in early 2020. Ian and Tania have created Berean Insights, a Christian Charity, based on Acts 17:11 and now continue to work as partners with Wycliffe in the work of Scripture Engagement.
