Support Our Projects
Understanding God’s Word in a language you know well is foundational for knowing God and growing as a follower of Christ. Through a Bible translation project, more people can experience true life in Christ, deepen their faith, strengthen their churches and be equipped to share the gospel with others.
By giving to a specific project you help meet urgent needs, allowing new translation efforts to begin and ongoing work to continue without delay.
The projects listed below are those Wycliffe oversees directly. If you would like to give towards the work of our members, go to Support Our Members.
Ongoing Projects
-
In 2024, Wycliffe NZ and Bible Society NZ joined in partnership with members of the Deaf community of NZ to begin a Bible translation project for New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL).
For many Deaf New Zealanders, NZSL is their first language and their preferred language of communication (over written English). Therefore, many find it difficult to read and understand the Bible in written English. In addition, spiritual growth is hindered by a lack of access to resources typically available in audio format such as sermons, worship music, podcasts and even conversations with other Christians.
A NZSL Bible Translation in video format will provide Scripture in the language Deaf New Zealanders know best. Beyond this, access to Scripture in NZSL will enable deeper understanding of God and His Word, foster spiritual growth and promote connection and fellowship within the Deaf Christian community.
As the project is to be Deaf-led, before any translation can begin, a translation team needs to be established and trained. The initial focus for 2025 is engaging in discussion with the Deaf community across New Zealand, determining needs and goals, establishing a project plan and structure, and providing training for Deaf individuals who take on the task.
